TIPS are dependent on what Browser your using.  TIP function (or feature) will be found under different menus depending on which browser you use.  Browser version changes may move (or delete) the menu location of the feature (and TIP).

1     CHANGE NIGHT INTO DAY (see in the dark)

To change a Night scene into Daytime, go to the top window menu “World”.  Select on the drop-down World menu “Sun” (near the bottom of menu list).  You can now pick Sunrise, Midday, Sunset, Midnight or Default.

2     CAMERA VIEWS (moving your Camera)

You can tour Stores, check-out an Island or Inspect a crowd before actually Walking or Flying into that group.  When it comes to groups, sometimes it’s safer to “check their Profile page” from a distance before meeting these Avatars.

ALT            Zooms Camera IN or OUT and PANS.

( Hold ALT key, Click mouse cursor on Object and DRAG )

CTRL-ALT    360 degree rotate in any of the 3-axes around an Object.

( Hold CTRL-ALT keys, Click mouse cursor on Object and DRAG )

3    UNLIMIT YOUR CAMERA (long distance viewing)

SL limits how far the camera can be moved away from your Avatar.  This limits how far you can move your camera through stores or a territory.  You can remove this limit via a menu.  Turn-On the Debug menu by pressing  CTRL-ALT-Shift-D  (four keys).  This adds another menu at the top of your SL window.  Withn this new menu list, select “Disable Camera Contraints”.

4    PRIVATE VERSUS PUBLIC CHATTING (whisper to a friend)

You can type in Chat messages to the people around you (within about 25 meters).  But sometimes, there is a friend near you that you would like to pass a PRIVATE message without the crowd knowing.   Use the IM feature of SL (click “People” Tab) and hover the mouse cursor over the Avatar name you want to chat with.  Click the small “?” in the blue circle. Now click the IM button to send Private messages.

5    QUICK ESCAPE FROM TROUBLE (set a HOME base)

You may run into trouble in SL and want a quick escape route.  SL does provide this feature.  You may not own land but you can set a favorite teleport HOME location .  Go to the menu: World  pick  “Set Home to Here” and preset your favorite landing spot in SL.  In trouble, use Ctrl-Shift-H keys to go HOME.

6    CLOTHES VERSUS ATTACHMENTS (wearing clothes)

Don't ware a Pine Box.  Putting on "clothes" is different than putting on an "attachment" like jewelry.  In your “My Inventory”, clothes have a clothing icon while an attachment has a pine box icon.

Clothes:         Drag the clothes icon onto your Avatar to wear them.

Attachment:        Attachments have to be positioned and you use the Ctrl-point-click (PC) or Cmd-point-click (Mac) to bring up the command wheel.  You pick WEAR, if the object position has already been adjusted on your body.  If not correct, then you select what part of the body to add the attachment and use 3D Edit controls to position it.  A “Poser Stand” will help you freeze your Avatar’s body for easy adjustment.

If you just drag an attachment icon onto your body, you will wear the Pine Box.
